16:36 - 2005-11-02 Friday -- Comic shop run. Bought 3 issues of Sandman for a grand total of ... $1.59. Would have had 4 except Mar snitched my last one from before I could buy it and got it herself. Not that it much matters because I've read it by now anyway. *amused* Also ran into irritating, sketchy fanboy. Took over conversation so others could leave, then ditched him. Yes, I am a bitch. Am greatly amused at fact that despite my lack of knowledge about DC comics (working on fixing that) I managed to hold my own against him. Diverting the conversation to Star Wars helped. *smirk* Also bought some incense and apple rings at Arrowroot and a grey wool kilt/skirt at Greene (sic) Street Consignment shop. Skirt shall be worn both for meeting Mar's parents at parent's weekend and for Thanksgiving at her house. Speaking of which, this upcoming weekend is Parent's Weekend here. This unnerves me because from the sound of things, Mar's mother is not particularly fond of Bryn Mawr and has insulted it and Mar's friends who go here multiple times. And they want to take me out to dinner along with Marshall, Mar's boyfriend, which for some reason is vastly amusing. So I have to dress nicely and hope I make a good impression. Because if I don't, I risk not having a place to stay come Thanksgiving for one thing and I really would rather not have to deal with my relatives for a second year. After the town run, came back and ordered Chinese and watched "Le Pacte des Loupes" which is still a royally fucked up movie. Dana seems to like it, though -- it was her turn to choose -- so we were stuck. Once again: fucked waaaaaaaaaay the hell up. Mar and I spent a great deal of the movie nitpicking the subtitles which made it more bearable. Resolved all of the trauma of crazy-ass French movie by watching Dogma and being amused by how Ben Affleck and Matt Damon spend the entire movie Definitely, definitely Not Hitting On Each Other and Definitely Not Being In Love. Snicker. Bartleby/Loki for all eternity. Hee! Saturday = Halloween on Bryn Mawr's campus so there was dressing up and going to Rhoad's Halloween after my work shift. Ended up slapping a very drunk male on way over to Rhoads. Got him and his very drunk friends kicked off campus. Frankly, this is one thing that I really dislike about Halloween on campus. So many random, sketchy, unsupervised drunk males. I did the stripper outfit again this year while Erika was Harlequinn and Mar was Poison Ivy. Penny came as Oracle (formerly known as Batgirl) and Marshall showed up as Willy Wonka. Dana stayed home. Just to fit me in with the rest of the theme, it was decided that I was Huntress. Mind you, this left me as "Huntress minus her mask and crossbow" but at least I had something more than 'generic stripper'. Stayed up fairly late, then tried to order a pizza from Domino's which never arrived. Annoying. Especially because I was starving at that point. Sunday afternoon I went to Swat only to find that my ling partner wasn't there. I was pissed, but couldn't really do much about it so after wandering all over the Swarthmore campus, I went home. That evening was Lantern Night. Which I missed most of due to work and having missed signing up. *sulks* At least got to make the end of Step Sing. Am put out by lack of people in attendance, esp. from my class. Also, am made very, very sad by lack of DS tea afterwards. Very sad indeed. *wails* Why are this year's frosh all so normal!?!?!?!? *sniff sniff* Monday -- Dracula's Ball in Philly. Whoah. Everyone dressed up, painted pale and joined a very, very goth crowd who had all assembled to see Voltaire & the Cruxshadows for all of $13 dollars (20 with handling charges included). I did the Rocky outfit. Voltaire is amazing. Absolutely hilarious, including stories about being the "spooky dad" on the PTA and how his son, upon being told the story of Easter looked up at him and asked "Jesus is a zombie?!" *dies laughing* Fabulous. He also writes a comic about an evil teddy bear and so I bought the third issue -- the one with a 4 page short by Neil Gaiman in it. Neil Gaiman = love. I don't want to have sex with the man, but if my mind could have sex with his mind ... ? Hell yeah. Neil Gaiman's writing is a fine seven course meal complete with good wines. *happy sigh at Neil Gaiman* Of great amusement is the fact that I (of all people) found a boy (of all things) at the concert. He has my AIM name, but I'm hoping he doesn't use it because frankly, unless I become both straight and single by the time he does use it, that could be awkward. His name is Jim and he's studying business at Drexel, or so he tells me. I got some dancing out of it, though, so that happified me. Carol = short on dancing & making out. He complimented me on my dancing. Jessica, who did my make-up, complimented me on my knees. Weird. Spent most of that night in Philly, got coffee and donuts at a 24 hour Dunkin' Donuts at around 3 am and went to Swat and Haverford in my costume. The reactions weren't quite as dramatic as I'd hoped, but that's life. I slowly attempt to seek out nerd life at Swat but they seem to go for 'book smart' and obsessive studying rather than actual nerdiness. I find this vastly disappointing. Girl who failed to meet me on Sunday rectified her mistake by explaining to both teacher and grader exactly what had happened and getting me out of the mess she'd gotten me into. All is well on that front and so life goes on. Now I just have to survive Parent's Weekend and get facilities to bring me my damn wardrobe before Dana's mother shows up.
